Redevelopment and Expansion Plans
We pride ourselves in keeping up to date with global standards. In July 2011, we concluded a US $10 million project to upgrade the bedrooms at our two flagship hotels, Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe and Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre. This was extremely well received by Sunbird Malawi’s loyal guests. In late 2011, we built the elegant Picasso's Restaurant and Pablo's Bar at Sunbird Mount Soche at a cost of US $750,000, due to open in October 2011. The two have proved to be real winners for residents and the local public alike. We are currently working on a new cocktail bar for the Viphya Restaurant at Sunbird Capital. We plan to complete this towards the close of 2014.
Our Lakeshore International Conference Centre at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge, a state-of-the-art facility, was completed at the end of July 2011 and has attracted quite a lot of conferences from within Malawi and other Southern African countries.
In 2013, we completed four new executive quality bedrooms at Sunbird Lilongwe, taking the inventory in this room type to eight and in constant demand. We also set up a new "4-star" bedroom block, comprising two executive bedrooms and two suites, at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge, intended to service the Lakeshore International Conference Centre's need for VIP delegates' accommodation. This also is proving to be highly successful.
It is therefore fair to say that Sunbird Malawi sees itself as the country’s driving force in providing world-class facilities in Malawi’s leisure and business tourism sector.
